Pasta and Jazz Night - July 19th

Who the heck are the Carpenter Ants??

WV's premiere rhythm & blues band, the Ants have quietly amassed a resume that rivals many national groups. The core of the band consists of guitarist Michael Lipton, drummer Jupiter Little, bassist Ted Harrison and vocalist/saxophonist Charlie Tee. A revolving cast of auxiliary Ants has included singer/songwriter Larry Groce (host of NPR's "Mountain Stage") original NRBQ guitarist Steve Ferguson legendary Hammond B3 player Winston Walls and Robert Shafer, one of the country's premiere Telecaster slingers and two-time national flat-picking champion.

That Dam Race 5K - July 19th

The race begins at beautiful Sutton Dam, goes through a trail in the woods, and onto historic Main Street in Sutton.
Be sure to be early, the area will be blocked off to traffic beginning at 7:30 am!

  • Entry fee is $20.00 for preregistration and $25 for registration the morning of the race. Seniors age 60 or older $20.
  • 7:00 am race day registration for 5K
  • 8:00 am "That Dam Race" begins
  • First 100 preregistered participants get a FREE shirt!

Course

The course begins under the backdrop of the magnificent Sutton Dam at the Downstream Recreation Area. Participants then have a strenuous climb up the face of the dam and then across the top of the dam. Then the course takes them on a trip through the woods and back down to the Elk River. Then, to the brick paved streets of historic downtown Sutton past many beautiful, majestic buildings. The finish line is nearly in sight as participants head back up river with the dam in the distance. The race ends back at the Downstream Recreation Area where it began. Come and run/walk one of the toughest and most unique courses in the region!  

Directions

Shelters 1, 2 and 3 are located at the Sutton Dam. From, I-79, take Exit 62 Sutton/Gassaway. Turn left on SR 4, approximately 2 miles into Sutton. Turn right at the Stop sign, cross the Elk River, and Turn Left to the Dam.

Sutton Dam Tours - July 20st

The 21st offers fascinating and informative Sutton Dam tours. Discover the inner working of the Sutton Dam and what it takes to keep it up and running. Tours will be hosted by the Army Corps of Engineers from 10 AM to 2 PM. All visitors over 16 years old need to have a photo ID. No cameras, cell phones, or handbags can be taken into the dam. Tours typically last 45 minutes and do require walking stairs (we can make accommodations for wheelchairs). Our folks will handle registration and tours. Pre-registration is recommended to be sure you get your spot on a tour. So call 304-765-2816 today to schedule your tour.
